本標(biāo)準(zhǔn)規(guī)定了用石英膨脹計(jì)測(cè)定塑料在-30℃~30℃線膨脹系數(shù)的方法。本標(biāo)準(zhǔn)適用于使用石英膨脹計(jì)對(duì)線膨脹系數(shù)大于1×10-6℃-1的塑料材料的線膨脹系數(shù)進(jìn)行測(cè)定。本標(biāo)準(zhǔn)不適用于線膨脹系數(shù)很低（小于1×10-6℃-1）的材料。對(duì)于低膨脹系數(shù)的材料，建議使用干涉計(jì)或電容技術(shù)。

本方法是將已測(cè)量原始長(zhǎng)度的試樣裝入石英膨脹計(jì)中，然后將膨脹計(jì)先后插入不同溫度的恒溫浴內(nèi)，在試樣溫度與恒溫浴溫度平衡，測(cè)量長(zhǎng)度變化的儀器指示值穩(wěn)定后，記錄讀數(shù)，由試樣膨脹值和收縮值，即可計(jì)算試樣的線膨脹系數(shù)。
