What is a New Year's resolution?

A New Year's resolution is a goal for the new year.

Okay,look at this.

That woman says:"My new year's resolution is to lose 20 pounds this year."

Okay,so she thinks she's a little bit too fat,and she wants to lose weight.

Okay,so 20 pounds is probably about 8 kilograms or something like that.

Do you think she can do it?

That's he resolution,that's her goal for the new year.

Okay,take a look at this guy,he says:"My New Year's resolution is to go to the gym three times a week."

That's pretty good,three times a week.

I don't know,do you think he's going to stay consistent three times a week?

I hope so.

Okay,look at this woman.

My New Year's resolution is to save $2000 this year.

Wow,that's a great resolution.

Okay,look at this guy.

My new year's resolution is to stop smoking.

Wow,that would be a great resolution.

Now I want to tell you my New Year's resolution for 2018.

Okay,my New Year's resolution is to have 500 videos on Mad English TV by the end of 2018.

Do you think I can do it?

And that's a lot of videos,right now I have about a hundred and eighty videos.

So to make to have 500 by the end of 2018,that's a very steep goal,if something's very hard,we say that's a very steep goal to have.

Okay,but I'm gonna try,we'll see what happens.

Now the thing is most New Year's resolutions never get accomplished.

Okay,and everyone knows it,so it's sort of funny,people joke about it,people laugh about it.

Uh..because they know New Year's resolutions nobody takes them too seriously,you know like the woman who wants to lose 20 pounds,realistically she's probably not gonna get to that goal,or the guy who wants to stop smoking.

I mean realistically,he's probably not good.

I've known alot of people who have made New Year's resolutions over the past few years,and they all fail.

Okay,so it's more of a joke,people don't take it too seriously,but I'm going to try to make 500 videos,okay?
