DOME IS HOME: ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES
Accommodation
Undergraduates
As an undergraduate at Murray Edwards, you will be provided with?accommodation?throughout your degree, either on the main College site or in a house nearby. Some bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, but whichever room you’re in, you’ll have the same basic furniture: a single bed, bedside table, desk, desk lamp, desk chair, easy chair, bookshelves, noticeboards and a fitted wardrobe. You’ll also have access to fully-equipped kitchens with ovens, hobs, microwaves and fridges.
Graduates
Graduate accommodation??is situated in the heart of the College grounds with easy access to all facilities. The rooms are en suite and share a spacious kitchen/living area. The block also houses the graduate Common Room, a light and modern space perfect for social gatherings. Other facilities include luggage storage rooms, a laundry room, a covered bike shed and a computer room. Additional rooms are available for graduate students in houses close to College.

Facilities
Dining
All Murray Edwards students are offered breakfast, lunch and dinner from the cafeteria in the spectacular?Dome dining hall. You can choose from a wide range of food, including hot meals, salad, soup and sandwiches.
Formal Hall – a high quality dinner with full waiter service – takes place on Tuesdays and some Fridays. Guests are welcome! If you’re a graduate student, you can attend one Formal Hall per week free of charge, and you and your guests are invited for drinks with the Fellows beforehand.
Sports
Our?sports?facilities include a squash court and tennis/netball courts, which students can use for free.? The College also has its own?gym, available for use every day for a membership fee.
Music
If you enjoy?music, there are plenty of spaces to practise. The Music Room has a Danemann upright piano and a Kawai electric upright piano. The Coach House, a dedicated student space, includes practice rooms with pianos. The Fellows’ Dining Room has a Steinway grand piano for use by pianists of Grade 8 or above.
Social space
The College bar is staffed by students and hosts numerous events. Band in the Bar is a great favourite, featuring live acts and attracting students from across the University. You can also enjoy comedy, board games, Karaoke, quiz nights or a game of darts. Every Friday, Skive@5 offers a chance for all students to get together with tea and biscuits before the weekend begins.
In addition to the bar, the Froud Room is a great place to relax, with its comfy sofas and large TV screen making it perfect for film nights.
Study space
The?Rosemary Murray Library, with views over the fountains and gardens, is an ideal space for quiet study. The Rawson Reading Area provides comfortable seating for reading and relaxing. Throughout the year, there are activities to promote students’ wellbeing, including a weekly craft hour during Easter Term.
The library holds the Eleanora Duse Collection, the Rawson Collection and the Women’s Collection.
EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS: CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
At Murray Edwards we encourage students, both undergraduate and graduate, to take up opportunities within College alongside participating in University-wide societies.
We have a number of societies open to all students, so if you’re already an expert, or just keen to try something new, there are plenty of options available.
Subject Societies
Franklin Society (Science)
The Franklin Society is aimed at anyone with an interest in science, but particularly Natural Sciences students. They run academic support sessions, host talks and provide advice on course options and internships.
Gabe Society (Languages)
The Gabe Society encourages modern linguists to come together and socialise. It also organises events such as poetry readings and the chance for fourth year students to present and discuss their year abroad projects/dissertations.
Medical Society
This thriving society supports medical students academically and creates opportunities for them to socialise with medical students from other Colleges.
Law Society
As well as organising social events, the Law Society arranges other opportunities such as mooting competitions, and hosts careers events that are open to all students interested in Law.
Further academic-related societies include: the Debate and Discussion Society, Engineering Society, English Society, Geography Society, History Society, Maths Circle and the Veterinary Society.

Other Societies
Music Society, including Inter Alios (Choir) and Orchestra on the Hill
Murray Edwards Music Society?supports all musicians in College.? It runs a range of ensembles and events, both formal and informal, with all musical styles and standards welcome.
Inter Alios?is the joint choir of Murray Edwards and Churchill College. ‘Inter Alios’ translates as ‘a(chǎn)mong others’ and speaks to the collective spirit; they are proudly inter-faith, inter-collegiate and international in their make-up. The choir sing alternate Sundays at each College, serving as the Chapel Choir to the ecumenical Chapel at Churchill and hosting a unique ‘Music and Words’ event at Murray Edwards, which combines choral music, poetry and a short address on a topic relevant to the human experience.
Orchestra on the Hill?is a joint orchestra for Murray Edwards and our neighbouring Colleges, with a wide-ranging repertoire; new members are always welcome.
The Arden Players (Theatre)
The Arden Players support and fund plays performed in College and elsewhere in the University, including the ADC Theatre. They act as a resource for students who are new to Cambridge drama and would like to get involved in producing and directing plays.
Feminist Society
The Murray Edwards Feminist Society is open to any member of the College who wishes to learn about and discuss issues connected to gender and feminism. They hold fortnightly discussions and frequent social events, providing friendly and respectful spaces to engage with feminism.

PICK YOUR OWN: WHERE ART, ARCHITECTURE AND GARDENS MEET
The College houses?The New Hall Art Collection, one of the largest and most significant collections of contemporary art by women in the world.? The artworks are displayed throughout the College, to inspire those who live and work here.
Students don’t have to “keep off the grass”. Unlike in most Colleges, they are actively encouraged to enjoy our informal?gardens. Students walk and sit on the grass as well as pick flowers and vegetables in the summer.
The College is home to one of the most popular brunches in Cambridge, with students visiting from across the University every Saturday. Brunch is hosted in the Dome dining hall, one of our modern?Grade II* listed buildings, which were designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon – architects of the Barbican in London.
