紫銅的用途比純鐵廣泛得多,每年有50%的銅被電解提純?yōu)榧冦~,用于電氣工業(yè)。這里所說的紫銅,確實要非常純,含銅達99.95%以上才行,很少量的雜質(zhì),特別是磷、砷、鋁等,會大大降低銅的導(dǎo)電率。主要用于制作發(fā)電機﹑母線﹑電纜﹑開關(guān)裝置﹑變壓器等電工器材和熱交換器﹑管道﹑太陽能加熱裝置的平板集熱器等導(dǎo)熱器材。銅中含氧(煉銅時容易混入少量氧)對導(dǎo)電率影響很大,用于電氣工業(yè)的銅一般都必須是無氧銅。另外,鉛、銻、鉍等雜質(zhì)會使銅的結(jié)晶不能結(jié)合在一起,造成熱脆,也會影響純銅的加工。這種純度很高的純銅,一般用電解法精制:把不純銅(即粗銅)作陽很,純銅作陰很,以硫酸銅溶液為電解液。當(dāng)電流通過后,陽很上不純的銅逐漸熔解,純銅便逐漸沉淀在陰很上。這樣精制而得的銅;純度可達99.99%。
紫銅還用于電機短路環(huán),電磁加熱感應(yīng)器的制作,和大功率電子元件上面,接線排接線端子之類的。
紫銅也運用到了門、窗、扶手等家具及裝飾上。
