AiriPan 33.16 Foolproof Photobashing

?33 Lesson 6 - Foolproof Photobashing Part 1 - Photobashing 201 - Values
Hello, honored guests. Welcome back to the event where we will now take this piece to a complete finish. And I'm not just gonna take this piece to one finish. Oh, no. I'm gonna take this piece to multiply it finish. And I'm not just gonna take this piece to one finnish. Oh, no, I'm gonna take this piece to multiple finishes. Oh, yeah. How is that for a bang- for-your- buck, That is a deal of a lifetime. ?
Essentially what I'm going to do is instead of simply taking this piece to one particular finish of color, I'm going to show you also how to do different times of day.?
But right now, at this moment, there's something very crucially wrong with this piece, something that makes it feel very flat. Very boring.?
Where the house feels like it's on the same level as the rocks in the front.?
And. Like the mountains in the back. this mountains here are feeling really, really close.?
Like an avalanche is going to happen any time now. And it's just going to kill little red and sweep her away before the big bad wolf could ever get to her. ?
And the snow bank here feels like it's like the same as a snow bank here.?
Like there's no depth, there is no atmosphere right now. That's why everything looks so flat.?
And that's the first thing that we need to fix before anything else.?
My biggest recommendation before you do anything else is you go into your photo bash piece. So here it is. It's a thing that I have and you name every single individual item. ?
So for example, this is the front of my bank. And you can see that as soon as I take it away, you can see all the ugly photographs that are underneath it. But that's okay.?
Because as long as we turn on the final image, only you will ever know what was underneath it.?
So I have my bricks over here. There's little red riding hood. We take that for a tongue twister. We got a little red, we got her mule. And we can even just screw this up into one big group. It's gonna call it little red.?
We've got the fence, we've got the snow banks, we got logs, we got everything, we got the entire party.?
But you see how I went through here and I completely named every single layer. This is gonna make your life a lot easier.?
I'm not saying you have to nearly every single time, but for your clarity and my clarity and my sanity. I'm definitely going to go through name every single layer, make sure that they are completely separated from each other and they're clean and good to go.?
A really important part of photo bashing, because don't forget, it's basically a collage.?
You need all of these separate pieces intact, so that you can move it, you can change it, you can edit it.?
And also you can select it easily by clicking. So remember, if you hold CTRL, hold it down. You'll be able to select whatever item is on that specific layer.?
This this is the key. This is going to save your life. And this is going to save you so much time. This is why you definitely should put everything on to different layers. ?
If you don't, if you merge everything together, you will hate yourself later. So please don't skip this step.?
Now, even though previously I already went through and I did a lot of cleanup, there's still a few additional places that I want to completely touch up.?
For example, you can see right here, there's still a little bit of splatter and this ugly photo of stuff that's going on. ?
So I'm going to take a moment, just go through and do a little bit more fine tuning clean up.?
All right. Cool. Let's check out some of the things that was bothering me. Obviously, there's still a few items that I should go in to clean up. But this is pretty clean. I would say, if you're going to turn this image in, unless they literally take their magnifying glass and go zoom, then they're probably not going to see it. ?
However, if you're able to see any abnormalities at this size, then yes, you probably want to go in and clean it up.?
And the first thing I'm gonna do before anything else is, do you remember when we talked about our foreground, mid ground and background??
Well, that's exactly going to apply here as well. So quickly, I'm going to turn this into black and white,?
you can see that oh, my god. values are absolutely everywhere. This is a complete mess now, because I turn everything into black and white, I can't draw with actual color. But you see how like there's this black stuff here. There's black stuff here. here, this black stuff. here, this black stuff here is a good value here, the mountains. But the mule is really dark. This is really dark. This is just a complete mess.?
If you had to do a film study of this, you'd probably wring your hands through your hair. Because this will be a complete nightmare to try and separate into just three values.33 - 05:28頭皮發(fā)麻如何分辨黑白灰三色? ?
Yeah, I know this is the reason why everything looks so flat. Why everything looks so messy? because we don't have that clear foreground mid ground and background distinction. ?
Now very quickly, turning it back to color. The first thing i'd recommend is to do a very simple value study. So this is kind of more in the direction of where I want my piece to go.?

You can see the the donkey in little red here, very interestingly shaped. But the point is I want to get it to somewhere more like here, where there's a very strong foreground. So the riverbank here is going to be a foreground.?
And we have some rocks that also act as some nice strong anchors. Little red is really silhouette against the snow, as you can see here. She's already a little bit silhouette, but I want it to be crystal clear that she is the focal point.?
And then the mountains really fade into the background here to the point where they're almost basically white, to be quite honest.?
And actually, because I do have a river, it would be really nice if I could get like a little hint of white right here.?
Not only do I get to highlight little red out that way, but because it's you know a lake, it's a river. If we have some reflections, it will look really nice. ?
So that is our game plan. We need to get over there. Let me quickly put this into a group, call it my value study.?
by far the easiest step, among all of them would be to lighten our mountains, so that they can go more towards the back.?
So I go to my mountain layer, as you can see, our mountains. I go to my image adjustments levels and I just bring up the mountains a little bit.?
I'm not going to bring it up too much however, because they have this tree bank in the back here and I don't want these trees to get too light. So kind of a medium place will do.?
immediately my mountains feel like they're getting pushed back. No more avalanche going on to little red. Thank god. ?

Now the next step would be I put everything into a big group, as you can see, there's my sketch. Can you believe it? Wow. This is where we started from. But all of my pieces are now in this giant group. So I'm going to call this a niche.?
Now I take a levels layer right here, and I make it lighter, to show you how I got here again, gonna delete this real quick. Go down to this half moon, go to levels, causes an adjustment layer. And now you can drag this up. And make it more pale. Track it up, up, up. just like that. Now it's the pillar.?
So why did we make this pillar? What is the point of making a pillar? Just like we saw on our bird demo by making it pillar, then we can go in and add our own shadows. And we can also set the stage for actually putting on a color because we put on color, it makes the entire piece darker.?
So by making it lighter to begin with, then we may get darker. There's not that much harm done. ?
And now what I'm going to do, is I'm going to select these two layers together right here and control J. Or you can do copy paste. It's basically the same thing. So I'm gonna do CTRL j. There you go. ?
Now I have two of them. And for this one, instead of going light, I'm gonna go the opposite direction.?

I'm going to go super dark. So I put this back and I take this slider and I drag it down super dark. Roughly, I would say around there. ?
So now the question is why did I do that? Why do you want everything to be as dark as night??
Well, if you remember from our bird demo, this is going to serve as the basis for our shadows.?
to make it a little bit simpler for both your brain and my brain to understand. If I put these two layers together and group them. This is my lights. If I take two these two layers and group them. These are my darks. ?
So Lights, darks, lights, darks. It's kind of like someone turning on like a light switch, kind of fun. ?

Now I go in here to do a layer mask and remember anything that I draw in black, I get to show off.?

So essentially what I'm going to do is I'm gonna start off by completely filling this entire layer mask in black.?

Now whatever I draw in white, is going to be much darker, as you can see like this.?
So essentially, what you are able to do, if you take your soft brush here, you can go in and just gently press through, make this darker, make this darker, give little red a shadow, give this a shadow. And soon enough you will be able to add values to your piece, just like that, without having able to touch or harm any of the photos underneath it.?
But using a brush is really annoying, because it kind of touches over everything. This is why you kept everything into those specific layers. ?
Go down here. You can select your front bank, go to your adjustment layer, use white.?

Boom! Look at that. Immediately. You put all of this into a shadow, without having to touch any of these items here. It was fast. It was easy. And it was simple super quickly, before I move on to anything else, I noticed something.?
It's that little red is on a lake right now, but she doesn't have a reflection on the lake just yet. Very quickly. I'm just gonna take a little red copy and flip vertical and place her around right there.?
Because that's her reflection. I'm going to keep this for later. So I'm going to name this little red reflection, this kind of stuff we can do later. We don't need to do this right now. ?

Our main concern is going to be getting our values correct.?
So just keep us in the back of your mind that we have this right here. I'm gonna drag this all the way up above all of my other layers, Little red reflection. Turn it off, so that it goes away. And we don't think about it.?
We will do reflections overall later because there's a lot of reflection to get to. That's the hard and really fun part about lakes. When you have reflections on there, they feel so much more accurate and so much more powerful. All right. ?
Now what I'm gonna do is go inside and take my darks to a finish.?
Now let me explain some of my brain thoughts as we go through this. The most important rules that I adhere to when I'm coloring in the shadows, as I ask myself, is this further away? Or is this closer? The closer an item is the darker I make it. The further away an item is the dot darker. I make it, or the lighter I make it.?
So I simply don't touch the shadows. as you can see the riverbank here, All the rocks are closer to us than they are to the house or to the mountains in the background. Therefore I'm going to make them darker.?
I also added the shadows for the rocks, the trees, the logs, parts of the house, because they need to have the number one, they cast shadows.?
And also number two, because I want to give a little bit of a hint of that ambient occlusion that we talked about. Do you remember that's the secret sauce, that makes things feel realistic.?
And i'll just take a chill pill, hang out with me, and let's just watch a fun time lapse. ?
And that is looking so much better. Look at that. Now the mountains feel a little bit further away.?
The snow bank here definitely feels closer to us now.?
little red is very much silhouette against the white.?
The house actually has a little bit of light coming through.?
Things are looking so much better. And he might be looking at it going like, huh, what's the difference? ?
Let me show you the difference. Turn this off. Wow! Look at that. That is so flat. You turn it on, feeling so much better. So yeah, when you compare it to our little value study, things are looking a lot more like they're in place, but not a hundred percent in place yet. ?
We’re going to go the extra Mile or we put in some color like, come on, that's whatever.?
