What are some similarities of Japan, China and Korea?
I’ll draw up a list of similarities among the three East Asian nations below;
1.Usage of chopsticks. They place them on the dining table differently, though. The Japanese put them horizontally (to the their user) while the other two vertically.
2.Use of Chinese characters. Each of them uses them in different ways. The Chinese record their language only with Chinese characters, the Japanese dexterously juggle among Hiragana, Katakana, and Chinese characters, and the Koreans overwhelmingly exclusively use Hangul and resort to Chinese characters as mere supplementary transcxtions.
3.Infusion of Buddhism and Confucianism into the national minds. Each of the three nations has mixed them with different elements. China has developed Taoism, Korea has adopted Christianity, and Japan has merged Buddhism with its customary Shintoism.
4.Living on rice as a staple. All of them have been increasingly adjusting to Western diet since WWII, anyway.

The answer to your question depends on the time you ask it.
If it was before 1840, Korea was a brother of China and Japan called China upper nations as the written part of Japanese as a language was borrowed from Chinese characters along with other products from Silk Road, including buddhism and sutras.
After 1840 and before 1945, Korea was occupied by Japan and a large part of China. So Korea and China were still brothers in against Japan, but Japan became the “super race” by weapon and a member of Axis so their history was rewritten one more time under the theory of “super race” and assassinated their own prominent politicians who said otherwise.

From 1945 to 1980, Japan was a defeated loser of WWII and engulfed by Communism bloc. By that time, North Korea and China were in the same bloc and Japan was trying to build a good relationship with U.S.
From 1980 till now, Japan and South Korea are trying to distant from China and North Korea and China are still under the same bloc.

in China we have a joke
Chinese and Koreans have a good relation only when talking about Japanese, Koreans and Japanese have a good relation only when talking about Chinese. Japanese and Chinese have a good relation only when talking about Koreans
this maybe the similarity among the east asians

They are all derived from ancient China.
Both Japan and Korea, both North and South, were used to be countries of dependency to China before Qing Dynasty.
The countries also share similar cultures and traditions such as the Dragon Boat Festival, aka 端午節(jié), Chinese New Year (Spring Festival), aka 春節(jié), and more. Even though the Japanese are not celebrating some of the festivals officially, they still use the characters derived from Chinese characters and have made some themselves, called
South Korea, on the other hand, has abandoned Chinese characters and turned to use their owns. However, you can still see Chinese-style buildings in Seoul (which used to be called 漢城 officially).

I live in Japan and have been to the other two many times. They are all their own people. I will say that Japan shares some kanji characters and ramen , and karate which originated in China. Korean BBQ originated in Korea. But the other two have small bits of the Japanese culture there too.?
